WASP Rescue are finalists in the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards.

The judging panel shortlisted WASP Rescue alongside five businesses in the ‘New to Export’ category at the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2019.

WASP Rescue MD Matt Keogh will now attend a star-studded awards ceremony at the National Railway Museum in York on February 7th.

Keogh, said: “It is a huge honour for our hard work to have been recognised by the Northern Powerhouse Exports Awards.

“To be shortlisted is an honour in itself, to think we could win is crazy really but we can be rightly proud of everything we have achieved.

“It has been an incredible 18 months or so since we launched the WASP, and makes me so proud to think the device I invented is now being used in 17 countries around the world.

“This journey began as an attempt to keep my colleagues safe, to protect firefighters and emergency service workers around the world safe from harm.

“The interest has been incredible and I’m currently talking to 12 other countries about supplying WASP units so the future looks exciting.”

The PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Exports Awards is in association with HSBC and the Department for International Trade and was established to recognise the most entrepreneurial exporters from across the North of England.

More than 300 people attended the 2018 event, which saw Manchester-headquartered training simulator provider EDM Ltd take home the overall title of PD Ports Exporter of the Year.

Frans Calje, PD Ports’ CEO, commented: “With support from event partners, nominations for the awards have doubled compared to last year, providing us with more high calibre entries to judge.

“As we head into what is set to be a challenging year ahead, it’s extremely positive to see so many Northern businesses continuing their export journey as we see the critical importance international trade will continue to play to support the vital growth of the economy. By highlighting these successes at the awards, it’s hoped we can inspire further businesses to start exporting.”

Nick Missin, HSBC’s head of trade for the North, said: “The diversity, enthusiasm and tenacity of the businesses which have entered says everything about the North’s approach to the export opportunities which are out there – the world wants our goods, services, skills and expertise. At HSBC we are committed to supporting exporters, helping businesses and communities to thrive and we can act as a gateway to the world through our global network.”

Minister of state at the Department for International Trade, Baroness Fairhead, said: “All of the Northern Powerhouse businesses shortlisted for an award today are a terrific testament that exporting can bring prosperity and success.

“I would encourage any business that has exporting ambitions to get in touch with the Department for International Trade and to make use of the support available to kick-start their export operations.”

The winners of the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony, taking place on 7 February 2019 at National Railway Museum in York.
